天涯社区 Charts the Course: Destination FGCU

OCTOBER 3, 2018 鈥� FORT MYERS, FLA 鈥� Two of southwest Florida鈥檚 largest educational institutions, Florida SouthWestern State College (天涯社区) and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), have come together to form a new partnership to benefit students in southwest Florida. 天涯社区 President Dr. Jeff Allbritten and FGCU President Dr. Michael Martin formally signed the partnership agreement during a ceremony on Sept. 28, officially launching 鈥淒estination FGCU.鈥�
Under Florida鈥檚 2+2 articulation agreement, students who complete an associate degree at a Florida college already have the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree at a state university or Florida college offering four-year degrees. The 鈥淒estination FGCU鈥� partnership will strengthen the 2+2 agreement between the two institutions by creating a cooperative program among the Admissions, Advising, and Registration offices of both schools that will allow for the seamless transfer of students graduating from 天涯社区 who wish to earn a bachelor鈥檚 degree from FGCU.
鈥淒estination FGCU provides a clear and concise path for all students who want to take advantage of the 2+2 statewide articulation agreement in our primary service areas,鈥� said Dr. Allbritten. 鈥淚t also strengthens the relationship between 天涯社区 and FGCU, which in turn strengthens our region.鈥�
The partnership will also allow for a reverse transfer option so 天涯社区 students who are transferring to FGCU will be able to apply their FGCU coursework toward an eligible associate degree at 天涯社区.
Additionally, the partnership agreement provides students in 天涯社区鈥檚 Honors Scholar Program a pathway into FGCU鈥檚 Honor鈥檚 College, and it creates a scholarship program for students graduating from 天涯社区鈥檚 collegiate high schools who wish to earn a bachelor鈥檚 degree from FGCU.
鈥淭his agreement represents a shared commitment to student access, affordability and success,鈥� said FGCU President Mike Martin. 鈥淚t allows us to tailor make a pathway to a degree based on each student鈥檚 needs and aspirations. Through this collaboration, emphasizing each institution鈥檚 unique strengths, we will be both more effective and more efficient.鈥�
