JULY 1, 2020 β FORT MYERS, FLA β The Florida SouthWestern State College (ΜμΡΔΙηΗψ) Foundation, Inc. has launched βStronger Together,β a fundraising campaign aimed at supporting the Southwest Florida workforce and economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Funding will help ΜμΡΔΙηΗψ students who are facing financial hardships but are not CARES Act eligible. The campaign will also provide additional support to ΜμΡΔΙηΗψ workforce programs and provide educational opportunities to those who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
βΜμΡΔΙηΗψ is uniquely positioned to adapt to whatever training needs could potentially arise in the region in the coming months and years as we navigate the reality of the current crisis,β said Keith Callaghan, executive director, ΜμΡΔΙηΗψ Foundation.
Located in Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Hendry and Glades counties, ΜμΡΔΙηΗψβs service area is the largest service area of Floridaβs 28 state and community colleges.
βFor the past 58 years, ΜμΡΔΙηΗψ has provided our community with an opportunity for affordable education,β said Dr. Jeff Allbritten, ΜμΡΔΙηΗψ president. Β βAs we transition into a new economic reality, itβs clear that higher education is essential. Teaching and training are critical for the Southwest Florida communityβs recovery and growth. Meeting studentβs financial needs and developing new programming with supportive infrastructure becomes even more critical for ΜμΡΔΙηΗψ as we work as an economic first responder. Certificates, advanced industry knowledge, and expanded critical thinking are necessary skills in the emerging complex workforce of Southwest Florida.
